Mental health issues have gone manifold in India, and the recent spate of incidents points out the well-being of one’s mental health.

The well-being of mental health can take a back foot due to various reasons. A growing economy, more freedom, easy access to social media, and a lack of empathy are primarily blamed for mental well-being. The lack of a social support system has added to the woes.

Mental health includes psychological, emotional,  and social well-being. It determines how we handle stress, overcome emotional setbacks, etc. Today’s world is not stress-free. Every footstep is encountered with stress, and how to overcome it remains the biggest challenge. There are four types of mental health, and these can be classified into mood disorders like depression or bipolar disorder, anxiety disorder, personality disorder, and psychotic disorder.

Causes

Poor mental health has detrimental effects on one’s day-to-day activities. Childhood abuse, trauma, isolation, loneliness, racism, discrimination, poverty, debt, addiction, etc, all contribute to mental health issues. The effect sometimes becomes so intense that individuals resort to suicidal activities, harming others, etc.

Excessive use of social media has its negative part when it comes to maintaining good mental health. Anxiety, depression, lack of sleep, etc, impacts the overall health of an individual.

Helping hand

Mental health issues have reached the pandemic level to such an extent that various organizations, start-ups, and medical facilities are playing a pivotal role in eradicating the slow killer. Helpline numbers are being circulated to people who are suffering from depression to avoid taking any drastic steps.

Physic issues have risen manifold post-COVID-19 outbreak, and a whopping 60 to 70 million people suffer from common mental disorders.

The way out

Lending a helping hand is the need of the hour. However, an individual suffering from stress needs to approach friends and organizations caring about their mental well-being to get much-needed solace. Being stress-free can be made possible by participating in specific exercises, yoga activities, and mingling with positive-minded people; only then can the menace of mental health be kept aside.
